Jet2.com increases flights between UK and Costa Blanca north

Jet2.com, the low cost airline, announced a major campaign in Fitur 2011 (the International Tourism Fair held from 19^th to 23^rd January in Madrid). This campaign aims to promote the two-fold increase of flights to and from Alicante starting on April 2011. With this initiative, Alicante becomes Spanish province best connected to UK.

Jet2.com will increase the frequency of their routes from/to Blackpool, Manchester and Leeds, and will add Glasgow, Newcastle and East Midlands (which covers Derby and Leicester) to the list of destinations reachable from Alicante. The company has also declared its plans to open new offices in the Alicante-El Altet terminal. This will mean the creation of 50 new jobs.

To date, there are 25 low cost airlines working in El Altet airport.

View of Benitachell town centre, declared tourist town

The town of Poble Nou de Benitachell in Alicante has been declared by the Valencian government a tourist town of  the Valencian autonomous region, along with 20 other towns such as Callosa de Segura, Elda, Monforte del Cid, Parcent, Pego and Xaló.

For a town to be declared a tourist town, it must meet certain requirements such as maintaining throughout the year an influx of visitors who stay overnight above the number of persons enrolled in the municipal register of residents, that this activity constitutes the base of the town’s economy and the tourist accommodation capacity is greater that that of the homes that are primary residences.
