Increase in property sales in Spain during May

In May 2010 a total of 37,784 property sales transactions were signed, 3,400 more than during April 2010 (inter-monthly rate of May over April of 7.3%). If we compare this figure with that obtained in May 2009, we also obtain a positive result because, in May 2010, 3772 more homes were sold than in May 2009, with an year-on-year rate for the first five months of the year of 11.5%.


Data provided by the National Statistics Institute (INE) also indicates that 50.5% of these sales were new homes (19,083 transactions) and 49.5% were resale properties (18,704 operations).

The regions of Spain in which the highest number of sales transactions were recorded in May are Andalusia, Madrid, Valencia, and Catalonia, which between them add up to 57.6% of the total number of sales in Spanish territory.

Valencia surpassed the national average as housing sales transactions have increased 13%, year on year rate for the month of May 2009. According to the INE in May 2010, 4794 real estate transactions were signed in the Valencian Region.
